THANKSGIVING DINNER

Thanksgiving dinner was a great success, thanks to you! We served 1,329 delicious meals from our trucks on Thanksgiving Day. Thank you to all who helped provide food and also to our wonderful staff and volunteers who gave their time to help serve. We couldn’t have done it without you! It was wonderful to see so many smiles on faces as they received their hot turkey dinner.

Dr. Dave Dubyak's
Famous Pumpkin Pie
Contest

The results are in and congratulations are in order! This year’s first place winner was Veronica & Clayton Gomez with the best pumpkin pie ever, followed closely by second place winner Tammy Giannini. Wonderful pies everybody! A huge thank you goes out to all who entered a pie in our contest. These pies were served with the turkey dinner from out trucks on Thanksgiving.

IN NEED OF:

The rain and fog have arrived bringing colder nights. Please keep bringing those blankets, coats, wool caps, gloves, socks, and cold weather gear, so we can help our homeless population stay warm. Thank you for the diaper donations! We are still in need of the larger sizes and formula. Other needs are disposable razors and deodorant. Our kitchen crew needs cooking oil, spices, and sugar. Please bring your donations to 220 S. Broadway in Turlock.

TIPS FOR LIFE

United Samaritans Foundation was very blessed to participate in the Festival of Lights again this year. It was a wonderful experience and so great to see the community celebrating this holy season together. We served approximately 400 cups of cider, hot chocolate, and coffee. Meals served on out trucks during the month of November 2004 were 45,215.

“There’s more, much more to Christmas
Than candle–light and cheer;
It’s the spirit of sweet friendship
That brightens all the year.
It’s thoughtfulness and kindness,
It’s hope reborn again
For peace, for understanding and
goodwill toward men.”

Sometimes, it’s hard to find the right words to thank someone as generous as the people in our community. Some one who has, literally, kept alive our homeless and less fortunate friends in our community. The poem you’ve just read says it best. For you are a true friend, whose thoughtfulness and kindness brightens the lives of the needy all year long. You understand that the spirit of giving isn’t a fleeting feeling that arrives at Christmas, and leaves when the holidays are past. It’s a commitment that lasts throughout the year and brings lasting comfort to those who need it most. Your loyalty means a lot to United Samaritans Foundation and the needy we serve. You know that all of the donations we receive goes to feed the hungry. We serve an average of 2,000 lunches a day. Without the support of the people in our communities, we could not carry out our mission. We also know that, when you’re feeling low, someone can reach out to you with a gesture of kindness that reminds you of how precious life is. And how much of it there is left to live. The poem says Christmas is about “hope reborn again”
That’s what you give the needy. You show them how deeply you care with a gift to
United Samaritans Foundation. On behalf of all of us at United Samaritans Foundation, we wish you and your loved ones a happy, and healthy holiday.

Legend of the Christmas Spider

A long time ago in Germany, a mother was busily cleaning for Christmas. The spiders fled upstairs to the attic to escape the broom. When the house became quiet, the spiders slowly crept downstairs for a peek. Oh what a beautiful tree! In their excitement they scurried up the trunk and out along each branch. They were filled with happiness as they climbed amongst the glittering beauty. But alas! By the time they were through climbing, the tree was completely shrouded in their dusty gray spider web. When Santa Claus came with the gifts for the children and saw the tree covered with spider webs, he smiled as he saw how happy the spiders were, but he knew how broken hearted the mother would be if she saw the tree covered with the dusty webs. So he turned the webs to silver and gold. The tree sparkled and shimmered and was even more beautiful than before. That’s why we have tinsel on our tree and every tree should have a Christmas Spider in its branches.
