UPCOMING CHANGES

As many of you have already read via the news media, we are going to cut our weekend delivery of food to the less fortunate in our community. This has been a very hard decision for all of us who work for United Samaritans Foundation as well as our Board of Directors.

This cut is due to the fact that the need for our services has grown tremendously during the past few years. It is also due to the fact that the cost associated with this program have also risen; fuel prices, all types of insurance, equipment repair including our vehicles which are getting up in years, etc.

We are seeking ways to remedy this situation and continue to hope that this is not a long-term cut in our operation. We are putting together a group, Friends of USF, to help us possibly raise more funds and get our cause out before the public. If anyone has any suggestions, please do not hesitate to give us a call.

CHRISTMAS DINNER

Many thanks to all who helped with our Christmas Dinner. We had many generous donations of food, Christmas gifts and toys. We also had a wonderful turnout of volunteers at all three sites to help prepare and serve meals. We could not have served so many with out their help.

In addition, gifts were distributed from our trucks to 193 children in Stanislaus County. All because You were willing to share with others less fortunate.

IT’S ALMOST
TIME!

Get ready for another Feinstein Foundation Challenge! This will be our eighth year of participation in this program that helps us help others. Feinstein’s past challenges to fight hunger have raised a record $350 million for agencies nationwide, and you can be a part of it.

How can you help? Any cash or checks and food contributions received between March 1 and April 30, 2004, will help us qualify for a portion of $1 million –more contributions collected means a larger award from this grant.

GLOVES! GLOVES! STOCKING CAPS, HATS and more GLOVES! We are also in need of cough drops and throat lozenges, as well as bleach, and paper towels. Please bring your donations to United Samaritans Foundation at 220 S. Broadway in Turlock.

Shelter

The We Care Program – Turlock has now opened a 50 bed shelter at 400 B Street, Turlock, for all over the age of 18. The hours will be from 6:00p.m. to 7:00a.m., seven days a week. For more information please contact Sean Byrne at (209) 656-9498 or (209) 883-2017

Meals served on our trucks during the month of December 2004 were 45,253.

In our emergency food box program 197 families (534 people) were provided with a three-day, three meals per day supply of food, which equals 4,806 meals.
