MAY 2006
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Annual Post Office Food Drive

On Saturday, May 13, 2006 the National Association of Letter Carriers will be collecting your donations of non-perishable food. This will be the twelfth year that United Samaritans Foundation has been a recipient of this canned food drive. These donations are especially helpful to us in providing emergency food boxes each month. Many of us have had the privilege of working along with the Postal Carriers on this project. Boy Scout Troop # 21 has also helped collect food in Turlock in previous years. Watch for notification from the Post Office in your mailbox, and please remember to put your non-perishable donation near your mailbox on May 13th!

New Resource Center Opens its Doors

California State University, Stanislaus has been awarded a two-year grant from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to open a multi-service Resource Center to serve those who find themselves homeless and in need of supportive services. The University is working with the United Samaritans Foundation, Stanislaus Homeless Outreach Program, Community Housing and Shelter Services, the WE CARE Program, the Stanislaus Literacy Center and the City of Turlock to develop a center that will provide services to assist with housing needs, mental health support, literacy development and life skills such as financial management and job skills. The Center also provides a reading library, Internet access and assistance in working with other supportive agencies. Currently, the Resource Center is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9:30-12:30 but will have expanded summer hours shortly.

You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.

Summer Travel Could Mean Donations for USF

Summer is just around the corner and no doubt many of you have made travel plans which may involve hotel stays. Please keep the United Samaritans Foundation in your thoughts when staying in a hotel this summer by collecting and donating the shampoo, conditioner and bath soap from your hotel room. Remember, every little bit helps!
